FAQs

Why use ETHER to start my diesel engine?
Mother Nature can provide a shock to our skin and to your diesel engines in cold weather. If you must get your diesel engine started ETHER offers the very best and most economical method of getting it started and on the road when the temperatures say no!

Air intake grid heaters can help however, they are a powerful drain on your electrical system and have limited ability when the outside temperatures approach zero degrees. ETHER offers the most effective starting solution over the broadest temperature range when it comes to starting your diesel engine. If you want to be sure of starting your diesel engine in temperatures ranging from +50F to -50F, you can depend on the Quick Start System.

How much ETHER do I need to start my diesel engine?
Extensive testing has determined that maximum ether flow rates should not exceed .25cc per 100CID per 1sec (Military Standard Mil-E-52649B)

That would mean if you have a 500CID engine and a typical start cycle is 3 seconds you would need 3.75 cc’s of ether. If you back off of the maximum and use 20% less from the maximum flow rate you will get for a 500CID diesel engine 3cc’s in a 3 second start cycle.

This is a very small amount of ether considering that a standard sewing thimble holds 1 cc of ether.

What is the purpose of the atomizer?
The purpose of the atomizer is to convert the ether fluid into atomized (very fine droplets) of ether into the air stream of your diesel engine.

Best practice states that you want to locate and centrally direct the atomized ether against the direction of the incoming air stream. You want to avoid directing the ether stream onto solid surfaces inside the manifold preventing the possibility of the ether converting back into a liquid.

Where can I get an MSDS (Material Data Safety Sheet) for Ether?

What is an ECM?
ECM stands for Electronic Control Module. Another name is Electronic Control Unit (ECU). The ECM is the brains or computer that controls engine functions. Using the ECM increases functionality and reduces operator error.
