INSTALLATION

Continuous Flow | Metered Shot | Manually Activated

1. Continuous Flow Installation

Quick Start on demand 1.5 amp continuous flow valves should be mounted as close to the injection site as possible. A maximum of 48 inches is suggested for peak product performance.

Do not install / mount ether systems directly on the engine, inside the operators cab, adjacent to, or near the exhaust manifold. The ether cylinder has a safety system that will vent the ether content when the pressure inside the cylinder reaches 360/460 PSI.

A venting adapter and tube will direct the vented contents down and away from the engine compartment (QSP part number QS-1313) is available for added safety.

Suitable mounting configurations include the engine firewall, vehicle frame and radiator frame. An optional mounting plate that will mount the ether assembly in one piece including the cylinder clamp is available (QSP part number QS-1189). All valves should be mounted in the vertical position and not exceed 20 degrees in vertical tilt in any axis.

Quick Start Products, on demand 12 and 24V, with 1.5 amp maximum draw, continuous ether injection systems are designed to connect directly to a dedicated port on the vehicles ECM module without the need for a relay. Please refer to the connection instructions as specified with the OEM application engineering specifications.

2. Metered Shot Installation

Attach the nut and ferrule assembly onto the 1/8 inch NPT fitting located on the valve. Insert one end of the nylon/copper ether tube into the nut and ferrule assemble making certain that the tubing is firmly seated into the nut and ferrule assembly. Finger tighten the nut and them continue to tighten with a wrench 1 to 1 ½ turns beyond finger tight.

Attach the atomizer to the tube using the same process as stated above. Please note that at this point the atomizer has not been assembled into the manifold.

Connect the electrical wires using a switch as required for proper operation; This system is not polarity sensitive. Activate the system for about 34 seconds “on” followed by 3 seconds “off” without the ether bottle attached. Look for crisp shaft movement up and down. This will determine if the system is electrically connected properly. The shaft should extend when electrically activated and returns to its lower position when turned “off”.

3. Manual Activated Installation

a.  The valve may be hand actuated by operating the valve lever.
b.  Drill a 3/8” hole in Dashboard and/or fire-wall.

c.  Remove nut from control cable.

d.  Insert control cable through 3/8” hole and then through control cable nut. Tighten to hold cable securely to dashboard. Extend free end of cable through cable clamp on valve. (Kinks, looseness or tight bends should be eliminated by cutting off excess). Cable casing should extend approximately ½” through the cable clamp. Tighten cable clamp securely.

e.  Insert cable stop through hole in valve lever from the back side. Then run actuator wire through hole in cable stop. Insert cable screw in cable stop. Note: Before tightening cable screw make sure to leave 1/8” space between cable “T” handle and dashboard. Tighten cable screw.

CONNECTING THE SYSTEM

1. Mount the valve assembly as previously described.

2. Attach the correct precision fitting QSP P/N LP-5161-X, X = the described orifice size per customer requirements) into the exhaust port side of the valve body. Wrench torque 1 1/2 to 2 turns from finger tight.

3. Slide the supplied nut and ferrule (LP-5146) onto the nylon tube (LP-3239).

4. Insert nylon tube into the precision flow control fitting until it bottoms out on the counter bored hole in the end of the fitting.

5. Hand tighten the nut and ferrule, and then continue to wrench tighten one (1) to one and one half (1 1/2) turns for proper torque of the nut and ferrule assembly.

6. Repeat this process for the atomizer on the opposite end of the nylon tubing.

7. Before attaching the Quick Start Ether Cylinder, verify that the supplied QS-1182 gasket is in place.

8. Attach the Quick Start Ether Cylinder into the ether cylinder port on the valve. Hand tighten only.

The system is now ready to test....

Actuate the system to insure proper operation. Check for leaks at the cylinder connection, precision flow control fitting, both nut and ferrules and the atomizer. A fine mist of ether should be spraying from the orifice of the atomizer.

FINAL SYSTEM ASSEMBLY

Disconnect the nut and ferrule from the atomizer and attach the atomizer into the proper port located on the vehicles air intake system. The atomizer orifice is indicated on the atomizer. The atomizer spray should be directed into the incoming air stream, avoiding the intake manifold wall. After determining orientation, Torque into place with 1 1/2 to 2 turns from finger tight. Reattach the nylon tubing.

TROUBLE SHOOTING THE SYSTEM (IF REQUIRED)

1. Check the cylinder content. An empty cylinder weight is 17 ounces. A full cylinder will weigh approximately 37 ounces. It is our recommendation that a cylinder with 20% of its contents or less be replaced. It is not recommended that you try to test for pressure.

2. Before replacing the cylinder you must verify the QS-1182 gasket is in place. DO NOT activate the system without the gasket in place.

3. Check the cylinder for a hand tight connection.

4. If you still have a problem getting ether, disconnect the tubing from the precision flow control fitting, activate the valve and a fine flow of ether should be coming from the fitting. If not, remove the control fitting and with a clean air supply, blow out the fitting in the opposite direction of the ether flow. If you cannot clear the blockage, replace the flow control fitting with a new one.

5. Repeat this process at each connection point all the way through the system, including the atomizer.

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

1. Periodically apply a drop or two of light weight silicone oil and let it run down the actuating shaft and into the valve.

2. When the cylinder is not attached to the valve, make sure that a dust cap is in place to prevent dirt and other types of debris from entering the system.
